Description
The Handheld Refractometer is a precision optical instrument used by beekeepers to measure the moisture content and sugar concentration (Brix) of honey. It helps determine whether honey is properly ripened and ready for harvest, ensuring high-quality, non-fermenting honey suitable for storage and sale.
By placing a small drop of honey on the prism and looking through the eyepiece, the device gives a quick and accurate reading of water content. This is important because honey with high moisture levels can ferment and lose quality over time.
Most models designed for beekeeping also feature automatic temperature compensation (ATC) for more accurate readings under different environmental conditions.
Applications
- Checking honey ripeness before harvesting
- Ensuring correct moisture content (quality control)
- Preventing honey fermentation during storage
- Beekeeping production and grading
- Honey processing and packaging quality assurance
A handheld refractometer is a must-have tool for any beekeeper who wants to consistently produce high-grade, export-quality honey.
